Dune is one of my favorite science fiction worlds since I had the book and games as a kid.It's way darker, more violent and fucked up than Star Wars (children) or Star Trek (virgins) but what I really appreciated about it was how much of a visionary and intelligent thinker that Frank Herbert was.For example, in the Dune universe, AI is fucking illegal and on par with the worst kinds of crimes against humanity since "thinking machines" enslaved and nearly destroyed humanity.In the 1980s, everyone seemed to understand that AI was an inherently bad idea that would be flawed and prone to disastrous outcomes since it would be created and shaped by flawed and prone to disastrously stupid idea having humans.Our saving grace from our own stupidity thus far has been that we havn't had the power or means to destroy the world until atomic weapons.
