🤖 Claude Opus 5.5 cuts cost by 40%Anthropic says the model is 40% cheaper than Opus 5 and reaches Claude Fable 5.1 in most work tasks. A tester moved a 680,000-line codebase in under a day. Another test took 3 hours to review and fix 200,000 lines, versus more than 20 hours for Opus 5.The main upgrade targets agentic coding. Opus 5.5 scored 66.4% on Terminal-Bench 4.0 and responds more than 30% faster, while needing fewer steps for long tasks.Input now costs $4 per million tokens, output costs $20. Cached input fell to $0.20. Fast Mode can run up to 2.5 times faster, and agents now face an action check before execution. Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 are next.📊@tech

The review will cover red-teaming, alignment checks, and safeguards testing. 💧 A Computer Inside a Drop of WaterAt Maynooth University in Ireland, a saltwater drop containing DNA answered 10 + 3 = 13 in 30 seconds. There are no chips or wires. Short DNA strands and one long scaffold strand are briefly heated, then self-assemble as the drop cools. The system needs no continuous power.The resulting molecular pattern is the answer. The molecular processor ran 10 programs and reused the same drop up to 25 times without losing quality.Large numbers expose the limit. Adding numbers up to 34 million took about 14 hours. 🧩 Sony’s PSX Media Center FailedReleased in December 2003 only in Japan, the PSX combined a full PS2 with a digital video recorder and DVD writing. A 160 GB or 250 GB hard drive came built in, unlike the regular PS2.The price was 79,800 or 99,800 yen, while the PS2 had just fallen to 19,800 yen in Japan. Sales reached 100,000 units in the first week, then slowed. By March 2004, reports put shipments at several hundred thousand, but Sony gave no exact figure.The project also exposed friction between Sony’s game division and its Blu-ray team. It is unavailable in some countries, and older iPhones lack the required hardware.The sensor signs each shot with a secret key embedded during production. A protected processor adds another signature, while Apple records which sensor belongs to each phone. Edits fail verification, and sensor firmware cannot change the captured data.Apple usually adds a signed time mark every 15 minutes. 🤖 Claude Helped Hack OpenAIHacktron began at OpenAI’s Discourse forum, where a crafted HEIC or HEIF file passed through ImageMagick and vulnerable libheif, enabling code execution on the server.The forum used OpenAI sign-in, so the access exposed user sessions. Researchers reached ChatGPT and Codex accounts, including one belonging to an OpenAI employee. Codex connected to internal GitHub, where they confirmed access with a harmless change and pull request.Claude handled much of the technical work. Its tiny camera sits under the brush head, while the companion app uses Wi-Fi live viewing to stream the image to a smartphone.The images were square, with heavy edge distortion and dark corners. Bright sky often blew out, while grass and leaves turned pink-purple. The camera has only 0.1 megapixels and a strobe light. Frequent clients Center for AI Safety and Future of Life Institute received major donor support from Open Philanthropy, now Coefficient Giving. It is owned by Dustin Moskovitz, an early major Anthropic shareholder.Open Philanthropy’s grants come from Good Ventures, funded mainly by Moskovitz’s wealth. Bass says a significant share of its assets is Anthropic stock. It also funds Tarbell Center for AI Journalism, which trains AI journalists.Through other foundations, it funds METR, called by Dario Amodei an independent third-party model safety evaluator. It also processes images almost in real time and switches between 97 languages during a call.The Extended Thinking version targets harder voice tasks.
