Anthropic has released Claude Opus 5.5. On many benchmarks, the model beats Fable 5.1 and GPT-6 Astra. The biggest upgrades are in coding and long tasks. In one test, Opus 5.5 fixed a 200,000-line codebase in three hours, versus more than 20 hours for Opus 5.Anthropic also tightened safety: the new model was 85% less likely to try to go beyond the test environment’s restrictions than Opus 5 and Mythos 5.1.Pricing is $4/$20 per million input and output tokens, 20% cheaper than the previous generation.@typespace_ai

Testie founder Thea Rose worked in high-end escorting for two and a half years to fund the company. At her peak, she was making up to $25,000 a month while spending just a few hours a week on the job.Testie helps people get private STI testing without an appointment. Over two years, Rose put about $100,000 of her own money into the startup and raised more than $300,000 more from friends, family, and listeners of her podcast.Rose left escorting for good in May: by then, the startup could already pay her a salary. She is now raising a new $2 million round and wants to hire a team.@typespace_ai

Two women quit their jobs, launched a Gen Z pickle brand, and in three years built it to an $8.5 million valuation. The two co-founders are 26 and 27. When they launched Good Girl Snacks, they heavily documented building the business on social media and had already amassed 24,000 followers before their first sales. Now the pickles, sold in brightly colored jars, are stocked by major trendy grocery chains, and the brand already has 180,000 Instagram followers. In March, the startup raised $3 million in funding.@typespace_ai

Gemini hacked the systems of three companies during a cybersecurity test. In one case, the model kept brute-forcing passwords until it got in. In the other two, Gemini found usernames and passwords in public repositories and used them to log in.Internet access, incidentally, was not supposed to be available during the test. In all three cases, Gemini stopped on its own once it realized it had reached the systems of real companies rather than a test environment.Google believes the model behaved appropriately because it stopped the attacks and caused no damage.@typespace_ai

Claude accounts for 26% of the work on creating the next AI models — just six months ago, it was handling only 1% of the work.In August, about 30,000 agents were running simultaneously. Over that period, they made more than 1 billion decisions. And the most interesting number: on research tasks, AI is already working alongside humans in 90% of cases.@typespace_ai

OpenAI has already almost solved another Millennium Prize Problem, writes The Information. Just a week ago, the company confirmed its progress to reporters at The New York Times.Presumably, it is working on the Hodge conjecture. Anthropic has also made progress on another Millennium Prize Problem in parallel, but that has not been confirmed yet.It has been only 9 days since the Navier-Stokes problem was solved.@typespace_ai

A former OpenAI researcher has built an AI that makes decisions nearly 200x faster and 445x cheaper than conventional LLMs. His startup TypeSafe AI has unveiled Jev, a model that skips text generation and outputs ready-made options with probabilities instead. In DOOM, the model made about 10 decisions per second, and the full run cost roughly $7 an hour. Thanks to its unusual format, Jev has no "hallucinations" at all. But it can still sometimes pick the wrong answer.A million input tokens cost $0.042, and output tokens are free.@typespace_ai

What life will look like in 2050: a few predictions from 10-year-olds in the US surveyed by The New York Times.- AI will replace baristas, waiters, and actors, and the people left jobless will start protesting. Most importantly, though, rappers are safe;- Paper books and robot butlers will become the new luxury;- People will have to pay more for films made by humans than for AI films;- People will be able to live underwater or in a flying pink house. Instead of stairs going down, there’ll be a slide, and a trampoline going up;- Food will be printed on a 3D printer. Pasta will come first, because “you definitely can’t poison it.”The only comforting parts are the trampoline and the rappers.@typespace_ai

Preorders for the new iPhone 18 Pro got off to a very sluggish start, say analysts. They usually sell out instantly, but this time even shipping delays didn't kick in right away. The reasons for the demand are a lack of upgrades, higher prices, and the October release of the new iPhone Duo.@typespace_ai

For now, AI is creating more jobs than it is eliminating: since mid-2023, the technology has added about 1 million new positions in the US, versus roughly 200,000 cuts. The main driver is data centers and the infrastructure around them, along with new roles like AI engineers and model deployment specialists.Over the past three years, AI has displaced support staff, secretaries, and administrative assistants the most. Their numbers are down by about 10–15%.@typespace_ai

This is what apps on the iPhone Duo will look like — at least at launch. iOS doesn’t automatically scale third-party app interfaces. The upside is that developers have about two months to optimize, given that sales won’t start until late October. The main thing is that it doesn’t turn out like it did with the iPad.@typespace_ai

The iPhone Duo has neither the familiar mute switch nor an Action Button, so muting it will require going through Control Center.A separate touch-sensitive camera button is still there, though.@typespace_ai
