📌 RQD vs Core Recovery: What's the Difference?Many geologists and drilling professionals use these two parameters interchangeably, but they measure two completely different aspects of rock quality.✅ Core Recovery (%) measures how much core was recovered from a drilling run.✅ RQD (Rock Quality Designation) evaluates the quality and degree of fracturing of the recovered rock mass by considering only sound core pieces longer than 10 cm. A drill run may show high core recovery but low RQD, indicating highly fractured rock.
