“Strength begins in the mind....Always be positive in your thinking — not just about your health, but everything. Positive thinking and faith are essentially the same, and it is a disgrace to our divine potential when we do not exercise them.” — Sri Daya Mata, “Finding the Joy Within You” Source: ➡️ fb.com/selfrealizationfellowship Further Reading: 📖 yssi.org/FJWY

SRF minister Brother Achalananda recounted this story at a Convocation:We received a call from a man in Canada who had been employed as an electrical engineer with a certain company since he was nineteen. He is now forty-eight. He had worked for this company for almost thirty years; then it went out of business and he was left without a job. For a year he tried to get another job, but couldn't find one. Here he was, with a wife, two children who were going to college, and he had no means of financial support. The savings he had accrued over the years were running out, and he was becoming more desperate every day. You can imagine how this man felt! Finally, he went one day to his meditation room with great determination to practice his Kriyas with utmost concentration and devotion. Suddenly he went into a much deeper state than he had ever been in before, and he felt tremendous joy

A Story ~ Fear Keeps Us From Trusting God One of the things that prevents trust in God is fear. Fear acts as a wall between us and God, so that His power can't get through to us. How can we remove this blockage? Let me tell you a true story that will illustrate both points that I have stressed so far-surrender to God and dissolving the barrier of fear. This story involved the family of Nathaniel Hawthorne, the famous American author, and took place back in 1860. Nathaniel, his wife, and their eldest daughter were living in Rome at the time. The daughter became severely ill, and day by day her condition. grew worse, until the doctor told them that unless her fever subsided by the next morning, she would die. Nathaniel had given up hope. He told his wife, "I cannot endure the alternations of hope and fear, and so therefore I have settled with myself not to hope at all." But his wife could

September 9: Effort “You should increase the strength of your body and then increase the strength of your mind. The best way to increase mental power is to try to accomplish something worthwhile every day. Choose some worthy task or project that you have been told you could not do, and try to do it. Each day strive to accomplish something that you have always thought you could not accomplish.” — Paramahansa Yogananda, Yogoda Satsanga Lessons Further Reading: 📖 yssi.org/Lessons

BE A DIRECT DISCIPLE OF MASTER ~ BRO. ANANDAMOYBro. Anandamoy ~ Now, most of you came on the path after Master’s mahasamadhi, right? Now I have a word for you. Master is speaking now. This is his quotation. I ask you to take this personally—Master: “I know those souls who are destined to come in the future and will follow this path steadfastly. I AM with them, and they ARE with me.” ....These are immortal words. This is not just a beautiful saying. This is TRUTH. “I AM with them.” That’s unconditional. Whether you are with him, whether you spend time with him, that’s your choice. But he does his part, “I AM with them.” Take that home with you because, you know you have to develop, you have to work on that, until more and more it becomes real. . .And then comes another thought, in connection with that. You know, people have been calling me a ‘DIRECT DISCIPLE.’ And I always hatedYogananda SiteBe a Direct Disciple of Master ~ Bro. “When you are absorbed in love for God, His response is there at the heart centre, a tremendous feeling of calmness and divine joy welling up in the heart that draws your attention or concentration to that centre. That feeling in the heart is like a great comet of light; and in that light is the love of God. It is that feeling which you should concentrate on in the heart. Those who are in earnest about God are aware of these subtle spiritual experiences. As soon as I concentrate on the heart, I feel that light, that glow of God’s all-consuming love.~ Paramahansa Yogananda “Solving the Mystery of Life”

September 2: Effort “Practising yoga is half the battle. Even if you don't feel enthusiastic in the beginning, if you go on practising you will come to feel that tremendous longing for God which is necessary if you are to find Him. Why don't you make the effort? Whence do all the beautiful things in creation continually emerge? Whence comes the intelligence of great souls, but from the storehouse of the Infinite Spirit? And if these wonders you see about you are not enough to induce you to seek Him, why should He reveal Himself to you? He has given you the capacity for love that you may yearn for Him above all else. Don't misuse your love and reason. And don't misuse your concentration and intelligence on false goals.” — Paramahansa Yogananda, “Man's Eternal Quest” Further Reading: 📖 yssi.org/MEQ

Q. When our meditation is not deep and the mind is restless, what is the right attitude to have?A. Daya Ma said that if you are meditating regularly but not experiencing increasing concentration and depth in your meditations, look to your activities and to your state of mind in your daily life. Your state of mind during this time can compromise the effects of your meditations. Things like restlessness or engaging in negative thinking can almost cancel out the efforts you are making in meditation. Look at your actions, your motives, your self-control or lack of it. That’s where many people say, “Oh, this is too much for me,” and they leave the path. Master asks a lot of us. Practice calmness in your daily life.Watch your emotional reactions so that you can control them before they control you. Watch how certain people press your buttons. Watch yourself to see how you react, and by

August 28: Meditation “No matter what happens to your body, meditate. Never go to sleep at night until you have communed with God. Your body will remind you that you have worked hard and need rest, but the more you ignore its demands and concentrate on the Lord, the more you will burn with joyous life, like a globe afire. Then you will know that you are not the body.” — Paramahansa Yogananda, “Man's Eternal Quest” Further Reading: 📖 yssi.org/MEQ
