TON became Telegram's blockchain
On 13 September 2023 Telegram and the TON Foundation used TOKEN2049 in Singapore to announce that the messenger was building its crypto layer on The Open Network: TON Space, a self-custodial wallet built by The Open Platform, went inside Telegram. It opened in wallet settings that day and reached everyone outside the United States in November. The custodial Wallet had 3 million registered users by then and the messenger 800 million monthly, and TON projects were promised priority access to Telegram Ads. The coin rose 15% on the day of the announcement.
