One common mistake I see among Mains aspirants I speak to many UPSC aspirants, and there is one thing I observe repeatedly. When I ask, “Have you completed Mains?”, many confidently say, “Yes sir, I have completed the syllabus.” But then I ask a simple question: “Tell me 5–6 points on this topic.” Suddenly the answer changes: “Sir, I studied it, but I haven't revised. I can't recall the points.” Please understand this very clearly: If you cannot recall it in the examination hall, it is almost as good as not having studied it. UPSC does not give marks for the number of books you have read. It gives marks for what you can recall, organise and reproduce within 7–8 minutes. So don't measure your preparation by “How much have I read?” Measure it by “How much can I reproduce without looking at my notes?” This is exactly why I want you to use the Mains Master Cards — One-Page Notes. Read the detailed Mains Master Notes for understanding, but then repeatedly revise and memorise the framework from the one-pager — key arguments, facts, examples, committees, case studies, diagrams, way forward, introduction and conclusion. Your preparation should move through this cycle: READ → CONDENSE → REVISE → RECALL → WRITE Don't keep reading the same 20-page chapter again and again. Understand from detailed notes. Memorise from one-page notes. Test yourself through answer writing. By 31st December, your goal should not be to say, “I have completed Mains.” Your goal should be able to say: “Give me a Mains topic. I can recall the dimensions, give you 8–10 quality points, add facts and examples, and write a structured answer within 7 minutes.” That is Mains preparation. That is Mains readiness.Optimize IAS

Understand how UPSC has asked the topic before, which dimensions are repeatedly tested, and what can be asked in the future. Step 4 — WRITE: From the PYQs discussed in the video, select ONE question and write the answer within 7 minutes. Don't wait until you feel fully prepared. Writing itself is preparation. Do this for the next 100 days without breaking the chain. 100 Days → 100 Topics → 100 PYQ Analyses → 100 Answers Written By 31st December, you will not just have read Mains—you will have studied, revised, analysed PYQ and written PYQ answers on your own. The biggest change you will notice will be your confidence. Questions that look difficult today will start looking familiar because you have trained yourself every single day to think and write like a Mains candidate. Don't chase perfection for the next 100 days. Chase consistency. One Topic. One PYQ. One Answer. Every Day.
