I just came across a video of a teacher who shared his wedding. The comments were full of “Be happy,” which is basically a direct translation from Uzbek. It sounds more like you’re giving someone an instruction or command.“Baxtli bo‘l, bo‘lmasa mazangni qochiraman.” 😂In English, there are so many more natural ways to express the same wish. You can simply say, “Wishing you both happiness,” “Wishing you a lifetime of happiness,” or “Wishing you both a lifetime of love and happiness.”

My students and I wrote a report for this recent @cdireport question reported by a candidate.This is the first version with simple discourse markers:The first step is that animal skin is dried and then sent to a factory to be washed with water and lime. After this, the skin is soaked in lime. Next comes flattening, and it is soaked again with tanning containing water and vegetable matter. Following this, it is polished before being sent to another factory to be made into different products.This is the second version which we refined with a group:Hung outdoors, the skin is air dried. Once dry, the material is transported to a factory, where it is washed with water and lime. This is followed by soaking it in a lime solution, which loosens the hair and softens the fibres in preparation for tanning.The final stages turn the treated hide into durable leather and then into finished
