Addis Ababa to Host CANMA Gathering in 2027The Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is pleased to announce that Addis Ababa has been confirmed as the host city for the next gathering of the Coalition of African National Medical Associations (CANMA) in August 2027.EMA President Dr. Abenezer Tirsit and General Manager Mrs. Tigist Mekonnen participated in discussions with CANMA and World Medical Association leaders during the African Physician Leadership Programme in Livingstone, Zambia.The gathering will provide an important platform for strengthening physician leadership, advancing CANMA’s governance, and amplifying the collective voice of African physicians.EMA is honored to host this important continental gathering and looks forward to welcoming physician leaders from across Africa to Addis Ababa.

EMA Mourns the Passing of Dr. Tsegay GebreaneniaThe Ethiopian Medical Association is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Dr. Tsegay Gebreanenia, Chief Executive Officer of St. Paul’s AaBET Hospital and an active member of our Association.Dr. Tsegay was a highly skilled Emergency and Critical Care Specialist with extensive experience in clinical service and hospital leadership. He previously served in several leadership positions within government hospitals and was committed to quality healthcare, teamwork, and service excellence.His dedication and contributions to the health sector will be deeply remembered. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire medical community.May his soul rest in peace.

EMA Successfully Conducts High-Level CME SessionThe Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA), in collaboration with Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), Nairobi, successfully held a CME session on Advances in HPB Surgery & Interventional Cardiology on August 19, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Addis Ababa.The session brought together 92 doctors, featuring Dr. Mzee Ngunga and Dr. Brian Misoi, who shared expert insights on liver tumor management and heart interventions in Kenya.The program was moderated by Dr. Mulualem Alemayehu and Dr. Henok Teshome, and officially opened by Dr. Samuel Zerihun, EMA Board Member.Participants earned 2 CEU and engaged in knowledge exchange and networking with the visiting experts.EMA thanks AKUH, the presenters, moderators, and participating doctors for making the session a success.

የኢትዮጵያ ሕክምና ማህበር የቀድሞ ፕሬዝዳንት ዶ/ር ጳውሎስ ቁአና አረፉየኢትዮጵያ የመጀመሪያው የዓይን ሐኪም፣ በዓይን ሕክምና ትምህርትና ስፔሻሊቲ ሥልጠና መስራች እንዲሁም የኢትዮጵያ ሕክምና ማህበርን (EMA) ከ1971 እስከ 1976 በፕሬዝዳንትነት የመሩት ታላቁ የሕክምና ባለሙያ ዶ/ር ጳውሎስ ቁአና በ97 ዓመታቸው ከዚህ ዓለም በሞት ተለዩ።ዶ/ር ጳውሎስ ከሊባኖሱ ቤሩት አሜሪካዊ ዩኒቨርሲቲ በዓይን ሕክምና የተመረቁ የመጀመሪያው ኢትዮጵያዊ ሲሆኑ፣ በ1964 በዳግማዊ ምኒልክ ሆስፒታል ማገልገል ጀመሩ። በ1980 በአዲስ አበባ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የዓይን ሕክምና ስፔሻሊቲ ፕሮግራምን በማስጀመር ለቀጣዩ ትውልድ የዓይን ሐኪሞች መሠረት ጣሉ። በእሳቸው ጥረት የተጀመረው ይህ ትምህርት ክፍል እስከዛሬ 118 የዓይን ሐኪሞችን አፍርቷል።በተጨማሪም ዶ/ር ጳውሎስ የኢትዮጵያ የዓይን ሕክምና ማህበር እንዲመሠረት ትልቅ አስተዋፅዖ አድርገዋል። ከዚህ በላይም፣ የEMA ፕሬዝዳንት ሆነው በመምራት ለማህበሩና ለሀገራችን የሕክምና ሙያ ዘላቂ አሻራ አሳርፈዋል።የኢትዮጵያ ሕክምና ማህበር በዶ/ር ጳውሎስ ቁአና ህልፈተ ሕይወት የተሰማውን ጥልቅ ሀዘን እየገለጸ፣ ለቤተሰቦቻቸው፣ ወዳጆቻቸው እና ለመላው የሕክምና ማህበረሰብ ፈጣሪ መጽናናትን እንዲሰጥ ይመኛል።የዶ/ር ጳውሎስ ቁአና አስተዋፅዖና አሻራ ለዘላለም ይኖራል።
