GTA 2 Receives Path Tracing Support 27 Years After Release — Gameplay and Screenshots of an Ambitious ModThe cult crime action game GTA 2, developed by British studio DMA Design (known as Rockstar North since 2002), has taken on a new look 27 years after its release thanks to path tracing. As noted by DSOGaming, modder gabdeg adapted Nvidia’s RTX Remix platform—which uses path tracing to transform games running on DirectX 8 and 9—for use with GTA 2 (DirectX 6).The corresponding modification is available to download for free from the repository on GitHub. A video demonstrating path tracing in GTA 2 was shared by GeForce evangelist Jacob Freeman.YouTube videoThe mod offers RTX Remix-compatible rendering, the generation of light sources based on in-game events (explosions, fires, and gunshots), dynamic time-of-day changes (Remix Plus), and emissive maps for some textures. All of this works in a 16:9 aspect ratio (cars and pedestrians no longer appear and disappear at the edges of the screen) and at 60 frames per second thanks to frame-generation technology. There is also a settings panel for adjusting lighting and the time of day.Since December 2004, the PC version of GTA 2 has been officially available for free. The game was initially distributed through Rockstar Games’ own website, while since March 2020 it has been available for download thanks to the “Internet Archive.”GTA 2 debuted on PC in October 1999, and reached the Sega Dreamcast and Game Boy Color in 2000. The game sold more than 2 million copies and became the last entry in the series to use a top-down perspective—starting with GTA III, the franchise moved to 3D.If you value what we do, you can support our projects on Boosty. GTA veteran’s fame couldn’t help: Build a Rocket Boy, the studio behind the disastrous action game MindsEye, has gone bankruptThe story of the disastrous action game MindsEye from Scottish-Hungarian studio Build a Rocket Boy, founded by former GTA producer Leslie Benzies, is nearing its end. The company has entered administration. As a reminder, since MindsEye’s release last summer, Build a Rocket Boy has carried out four rounds of layoffs, leaving more than 90% of its employees without work. The latest round took place in mid-September and marked the beginning of the end.According to GamesIndustry.biz, citing Build A Rocket Boy, the studio entered administration following the September layoffs. Opus Advisory Group is acting as the appointed administrator. The appointment of administrators indicates that Build A Rocket Boy has become insolvent and needs protection from legal claims by individuals and organizations to whom it owes money.According to a report published in July, Build A Rocket Boy recorded a net loss of £36.2 million and debts to creditors exceeding £61.8 million for the period from September 30, 2024, to September 30, 2025.MindsEye was released on June 10, 2025, for PC (Steam, EGS), PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. The game received “Mixed” reviews on Valve’s service, with a rating of 48%, and was named the worst game of the year by review aggregator Metacritic.Following the release, Build a Rocket Boy hoped to replicate the redemption arcs of Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky with MindsEye, but post-release updates failed either to attract players or change their minds. If you value what we do, you can support our projects on Boosty. Authoritative Insider Reveals How Ubisoft Nearly Made a The Legend of Zelda Spin-Off About the Series’ Main VillainIn addition to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, French publisher and developer Ubisoft could have released another game in collaboration with Nintendo—this time based entirely on one of its franchises.Details about the canceled project were shared by prominent insider Tom Henderson in an exclusive article for Insider Gaming. A video version of the report is attached below.According to Henderson, Nintendo and Ubisoft were pleased with the reception of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope in late 2022 and soon began negotiations regarding their next collaborative project.YouTube videoIn early 2023, Ubisoft Milan’s Mario + Rabbids team proposed a spin-off of The Legend of Zelda franchise to Nintendo, featuring a new character in the lead role. The project was codenamed Goliath.Nintendo liked the idea, but at the request of the Japanese platform holder, the protagonist was changed from the unknown hero to Ganondorf—the sworn enemy of the kingdom of Hyrule and Princess Zelda, as well as the series’ main antagonist.Ubisoft Milan began creating a demo, but in November 2023, Nintendo rejected the prototype for unknown reasons. The freed-up employees were reassigned to various projects within Ubisoft, including Beyond Good and Evil 2.Following Goliath’s cancellation, Mario + Rabbids creative director Davide Soliani, along with two colleagues, left Ubisoft and founded the Day 4 Night studio, which is currently preparing the platformer Bradley the Badger. If you value what we do, you can support our projects on Boosty. Nintendo Won $4.5 Million from a Reddit Moderator for Distributing Pirated Switch GamesAlmost a year after Nintendo filed a lawsuit against a Reddit moderator who oversaw a forum dedicated to piracy on Switch consoles, a verdict has been reached. The proceedings ended unfavorably for the defendant, which is hardly surprising since he did not even appear in court.According to the source, Nintendo has officially been awarded $4.5 million in damages as part of the lawsuit. In it, the Japanese company accused Reddit user James Williams (Lames Williams) of copying and distributing pirated games, as well as promoting piracy on the Switch platform. Nintendo also claimed that Williams had created, operated, maintained, and advertised piracy websites that published extensive libraries of games for Switch consoles. In October of last year, when the lawsuit was filed, Nintendo claimed that it had suffered damage “far from commensurate with the seriousness of the defendant’s actions.” At the time, the company expressed confidence in its right to seek “several million dollars” in compensation for violating the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Since the company did not seek the full amount of damages, it described its actions as “reasonable.”Even before the release of the Switch 2, Nintendo faced a serious piracy problem on its previous-generation console, released in 2017. Almost every major release, from The Legend of Zelda to Pokémon, became available for download long before its official release. Nintendo spent years trying to combat the problem, regularly taking legal action. The company pursued piracy websites, hackers, sellers of pirated software, and gamers who streamed pirated games. At one point, Nintendo even worked with the FBI to address the piracy problem. The company justified its activity in this area by stating that losses from piracy had amounted to approximately $170 million. If you value what we do, you can support our projects on Boosty. No More “Jagged Edges”: After 18 Years, a Modder Has Implemented Full Anti-Aliasing in GTA IVAfter nearly two decades of “jagged edges,” the PC version of the iconic open-world crime thriller Grand Theft Auto IV can finally boast full anti-aliasing—but not thanks to the efforts of Rockstar Games. As noted by Rock Paper Shotgun, modder ChunkLeChuck recently added support for upscaling technologies (Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3), anti-aliasing (DLAA), and HDR to GTA IV.ChunkLeChuck’s mod is called DLSS-IV and is available for download on Nexus Mods. It requires the comprehensive technical modification Fusion Fix to work. If desired, users can also replace FSR 3 with FSR 4.1.Video on YouTubeIrish blogger TJGM demonstrated DLSS-IV’s visual advantages over the original release in a recent video on his YouTube channel (see the video above). Viewers were impressed by the modder’s work.It is worth noting that this is not the first implementation of upscalers in GTA IV. DLSS support was part of a comprehensive mod by Warcaco based on RTX Remix; however, DLSS IV appears to be a simpler and more polished solution for modernizing the game.According to rumors, following the negative reception of the GTA: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition collection, Rockstar’s management shelved the GTA IV remaster indefinitely. Last spring, dataminer Tez2 hinted at the port, but nothing has been heard since.GTA IV debuted on the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles on April 29, 2008, and was ported to PC seven months later, in December. The game earned a score of 98 out of 100 on Metacritic and sold more than 25 million copies. If you value what we do, you can support our projects on Boosty. With love, NSWTL.

Valve has open-sourced Lepton — a tool for porting Android games to Steam FrameLast week, Valve released the Steam Frame wireless VR headset, and has now introduced a tool for expanding its game library. The software in question is Lepton, which allows games from the Android mobile operating system to run through the Steam client on Linux-powered devices — such as Steam Frame, which runs SteamOS 3 based on Linux. In particular, the tool is intended to help port VR games from Android to the Steam platform. Valve notes that other use cases are also possible, but they were not a priority during development. To run Android games, Lepton creates an isolated container with an Android system image. Each application is launched in a separate Android container.Unlike other similar utilities, Lepton does not require root privileges, runs all processes under a single user, disables Android

Pirates Removed Denuvo from Assassin's Creed Mirage — the Game Loads Faster and Runs BetterAlthough the hacker voices38 cracked Denuvo in Ubisoft's open-world action-adventure game Assassin's Creed Mirage back in the spring, it was only now that the game's performance without the controversial protection system could be tested. As a reminder, the pirated version of Assassin's Creed Mirage released by voices38 was not stripped of Denuvo. The hacker merely bypassed the protection rather than removing it — the anti-piracy mechanism was still running in the background. The other day, the piracy group Rune announced its crack of Assassin's Creed Mirage. The release is described as experimental, as it completely removes the game's protection — both Denuvo and the built-in VMProtect software.Rune's pirated version of Assassin's Creed Mirage has an executable file measuring 102 MB

Apple Will Stop Intimidating EU Users with Tracking Consent ScreensAs a result of a years-long investigation conducted by Germany’s Federal Cartel Office and other authorities, Apple has agreed to change the requirements for apps that request users’ consent to tracking. This system, known as App Tracking Transparency (ATT), gave Apple an advantage over third-party apps by displaying unnecessarily intimidating warnings for third-party applications.Apple allows its own apps to use user data from its ecosystem without having to request consent. For third-party apps, however, the company is required to display a warning about potential privacy issues and personal data leaks. Apple claims that these consent screens help protect consumer privacy. The new agreements with certain European antitrust authorities do not eliminate the need to request users’ consent or specify when that consent
