HOW EC DECIDES ON PARTY SYMBOL?- Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968- Above act empowers EC to recognise political parties and allot symbols- Under Paragraph 15, EC decides on disputes raising out of claim of name and symbols- SC upheld its validity in Sadiq Ali and another vs. ECI in 1971- As per the Election Symbols Order, 2017- symbols are either reserved or free- Follow @indiashastra- Reserved: 8 national parties + 64 state parties have “reserved” symbols (Jan 22 data)- Free: a pool of nearly 200 “free” symbols that are allotted to the thousands of unrecognised regional parties that pop up before electionindiashastra

Article 72 → Pardoning Power of the President- Pardon → Completely absolves the offender from all the punishment and conviction. - Reprieve → Temporary stay on execution of sentence . - Respite → Awarding a lesser punishment on special grounds. - Remission → Reduce the length of the sentence without changing its character. - Commutation → Substitution of one form of punishment for another which is lighter.Follow @indiashastra- Only president can pardon death or court martial sentence not governor. - Power under Article 72 are executive powers and not judicial power of the President. - President is not a court of appeal under Article 72 and may deny taking an appeal also.
