Dear colleagues at Jimma University, Greetings from the University of Copenhagen! We are pleased to share BIOSOL2026 Global Student Challenge: Solve It with Biosolutions, a global student video competition that we hope will inspire students at your university to turn their ideas into sustainable, biology-based solutions. The competition welcomes current bachelor’s students and recent graduates to propose an original biosolution addressing a challenge in their community or region related to food, agriculture, the environment, or sustainable development. Programme website: https://food.ku.dk/english/biosol2026/ Programme highlights Two winners: One from the EU and one from outside the EU 7-day visit to Denmark: 29 November–5 December 2026 Fully funded: International travel, accommodation, meals, and local transportation during the official programme Academic experience: Visits to Campus Kalundborg and relevant laboratories, with opportunities to meet University of Copenhagen professors and MSc Biosolutions studentsWho can participate? Students currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree programme; or graduates who completed their bachelor’s degree on or after 30 September 2025 The video challenge Create a 60–120 second video in English answering: “What biosolution would you propose to solve an important challenge in your community or region?” No laboratory access or professional video-production experience is required. Entries will be evaluated on their relevance to a real-world challenge, creativity and originality, and clarity of presentation. Possible topics include Food, agriculture, and nutrition Sustainable biomanufacturing, fermentation, and downstream processing Climate, renewable energy, and bio-based materials Circular economy and side-stream valorisation Soil, water, and environmental biotechnology Other biology-based solutions to local or regional challenges Important dates Submission deadline: 6 October 2026 at 23:59 CET Winners announced: 15 October 2026 Visit to Denmark: 29 November–5 December 2026 How to submit Read the attached Rules & Guidelines. Create a 60–120 second video in English. Complete the attached Submission Form. Prepare proof of current bachelor’s enrolment or eligible graduation. Upload the video to WeTransfer, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or another file-sharing platform. The link must be accessible without login. Name the video file: Institution_LastName_FirstName Email the completed Submission Form, proof of eligibility, and video link to biosol2026@ku.dk. Jimma University and Amref Health Africa Sign Landmark MoU to Advance Education, Research, and Community ImpactJimma University September 23,2026Jimma University and Amref Health Africa today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in education, research, and community engagement.The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Dereje Engida, President of Jimma University; Professor Muluemebet Abera, Vice President for Research and Partnership; and Professor Ahmed Zeynudin, CED of the Jimma Institute of Health. Amref Health Africa was represented by Dr. Lisanu Taddesse, Acting Director of Health Systems Strengthening, with remarks also delivered by Mr. Bekalu Asaminew.The MoU was signed by Dr. Dereje Engida and Dr. Lisanu Taddesse, formalizing both institutions' commitment to cooperation in mutually agreed areas.In his address, Dr. Dereje Engida reaffirmed Jimma University's commitment to quality and relevance in education. "Partnerships such as this play a pivotal role in realizing our commitment to quality education," he said, adding that the MoU opens important avenues for academic engagement that will enrich the learning experience for students and staff.Mr. Bekalu Asaminew expressed Amref's appreciation for the collaboration, highlighting the shared commitment to advancing research and innovation through joint grant proposals, collaborative research projects, innovation initiatives, and commercialization of research outputs. He also emphasized community outreach, including community-based participatory research, health improvement programs, economic development initiatives, and broader community engagement, as well as utility and capacity sharing to provide access to specialized technology, equipment, facilities, and training in support of education, research, and entrepreneurial efforts.The MoU will remain in force for three years and will be implemented through specific agreements and a Joint Implementation Committee.This partnership reaffirms both institutions' shared vision of advancing health, education, and sustainable development in Ethiopia and beyond.We are in the community!
