My kittens just stalked, toyed with, and finally ate a moth. Being natural predators, of course we didn’t interfere with their hunting instincts - they need that.After the hunt had concluded, I congratulated them and stepped away thinking of Nietzsche. Their instincts were below good & evil, not beyond it … but there is something similar between the two. Both are dispassionate play, there’s a leisurely charm in the curiosity of the war - not a good war or a bad war - just a war for war’s sake, a chance to be what they are.I greatly admire that quality in animals.I think in men, given we are a different creature - an objectively higher creature, our best instinct is itself the divine pride of an enlightened being.
