Jean Thurel (1698–1807): Ein Soldatenleben über drei JahrhunderteJean Thurel gilt als einer der am längsten dienenden Soldaten der Militärgeschichte. 1698 geboren, trat er 1716 in das französische Régiment de Touraine ein. Seine Dienstzeit erstreckte sich über mehr als 75 Jahre – vom Ancien Régime über die Französische Revolution bis zum Napoleonischen Kaiserreich.Obwohl er an zentralen Konflikten wie dem Österreichischen Erbfolgekrieg, dem Siebenjährigen Krieg und dem Amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitskrieg teilnahm, lehnte Thurel Beförderungen stets ab und blieb zeitlebens einfacher Soldat. Als einziger Angehöriger der Armee erhielt er dreimal die Médaille des deux épées (für jeweils 24 Dienstjahre).1804 zeichnete Napoleon Bonaparte den damals 105-Jährigen persönlich mit der Ehrenlegion aus. The ornate stone archway and golden iron gates at the main entrance of the Petit Palais in Paris, France.The official narrative states that it was built for the 1900 Universal Exhibition (Exposition Universelle), alongside the neighbouring Grand Palais. The opulence, craftsmanship & size of these buildings is unfathomable, even in this day of supposed advancement.Photos of the “construction” only show a completed building with scaffolding. The Mechanical Monk That Was Already Praying in the 16th CenturyBeneath this monk's habit lies an iron clockwork mechanism nearly five centuries old. Once wound with a key, the automaton advances along a trapezoidal path, as though it were truly walking across a room. The spectacle becomes almost unsettling when its eyes move, its head turns, and its jaw opens and closes. Its right arm strikes its chest in a gesture of penance, while its left hand raises a rosary to its lips. The spring, chains, cords, and wheels are completely concealed inside its wooden body. Traces of color still remain on its face, hands, sandals, and lips. The automaton may have been made at the court of Charles V by the engineer Juanelo Turriano, in the likeness of Saint Diego of Alcalá, but this attribution has never been proven. Its creator therefore remains as mysterious as the impression of life imprisoned

The Novagems on the Tower of Jewels at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San FranciscoDesigned by architect Thomas Hastings of the firm Carrère and Hastings, the combined triumphal arch and tower stood about 435 feet tall. It was covered with more than 100,000 Novagems measuring 1.85 inches in diameter, faceted cut-glass “jewels” that sparkled in the sunlight and were illuminated at night by more than fifty searchlights. Originally known simply as The Tower, “of Jewels” was added to its name after it received this magnificent decoration. In front of the Tower, the Fountain of Energy flowed at the center of the South Gardens, flanked by the Palace of Horticulture to the west and Festival Hall to the east. The Tower's arch served as the entrance to the Court of the Universe, leading to the Court of the Four Seasons to the west and the Court of Abundance to the east. The
