New legislation being field tested in Australia would give the government the power to run AI bot networks/sock puppets, apparently to secretly influence and manipulate online debates.Everyone is rightly freaking out about governments openly admitting to this.But everyone is also missing something huge about this. Governments already use AI bots to sway public opinion. The use of government sock puppet AI accounts is out of control worldwide.So why bother legalizing it? I think it has to do with giving the AI bots citizenship.
