On October 14, Telegram changed the blockchain explorer that links to TON addresses and transactions point to: instead of tonscan.org, gram.org now opens. Fragment also switched to the same address. This affects anyone who clicks a link to a wallet or transaction in Telegram or on Fragment: they are directed to GRAM Explorer, which has a dedicated page with statistics for Telegram's built-in wallets.

What Changed

In Telegram's server config, which clients receive upon launch, there is a key ton_blockchain_explorer_url: from it, applications construct links to TON addresses and transactions — in the Telegram wallet for iOS and, for example, in the NFT gift window in Telegram for macOS. On October 14 at 15:28 UTC, its value changed from https://tonscan.org/ to https://gram.org/. The change is visible in the config change log and in an independent mirror of the same config on GitHub. There is no need to update the application: the config is delivered from the server.

On Fragment, links to owners' wallets on the pages for numbers and usernames now point to addresses like gram.org/address/….

The gram.org domain record was updated on the same day, October 14 at 13:47 UTC — an hour and a half before the key change in the config. The domain itself was registered in 1998.

What gram.org Can Do

GRAM Explorer describes itself as the fastest blockchain explorer for GRAM: blocks, transactions, and accounts in real-time. Page addresses are structured similarly to other TON explorers: /address/… for a wallet, /tx/… for a transaction, /block/… for a block. The search function understands addresses, .ton names, transaction hashes, and block numbers.

Additionally, the explorer has sections not found in typical ones:

  • Telegram Wallets — wallets created in Telegram, counted directly from the blockchain;
  • Rich list — largest balances;
  • Validators — validators and election rounds, with their own staking yield calculator;
  • Decoding of smart-contract opcodes by their number.

The explorer's status page shows where it retrieves data from. The methods listed there are named identically to those in TON Center v3 (accountStates, actions) — suggesting that data flows through it. Who operates gram.org is not stated on the website itself: the footer only displays "GRAM Explorer" and a support address on the same domain.

Telegram Wallets in Explorer Figures

The Telegram Wallets page counts wallets created in Telegram based on the wallet smart-contract, starting from September 17. By October 16, it counts 133 thousand such wallets, with approximately 49 thousand having a non-zero balance. Together, they hold about 82 thousand GRAM.

Two rollout waves are visible by day:

DayNew Wallets
October 931 691
October 1033 473
October 1110 259
October 125 164
October 133 267
October 141 021
October 158 793
October 16, by 15:00 UTC18 767

The first wave began on October 9, when the wallet started to be massively enabled, and by October 14, it had decreased to a thousand new wallets per day. On October 15, wallet creation picked up again, and by mid-October 16, more wallets appeared in a single day than on any day since October 11.
